AB Directors, Emma & Elsa, went to the Canary Islands, with Dr. John Boone and Betsy Saul. We were invited by Desert Watch to assess the possibility of an island-wide community-based sterilization program for their cat population. The first step was to present our work and ideas to the community and key government and NGO officials. We presented in a 300-year-old convent on Lanzarote. It was quite a stunning location.
We then went out ‘hunting’ for cats and those who care and advocate for them. We also visited La Graciosa Island, and we were given a fantastic tour of all the sensitive habitat sites, plus the town. We are truly grateful to Desert Watch for inviting us to the Canary Islands. We are currently writing a proposal for the government of Lanzarote to review. We will keep you all posted as this program develops.
