Definition of HQHVSN
High-Quality, High-Volume, Spay & Neuter Clinics.

HQHVSN services are efficient surgical initiatives that meet or exceed veterinarymedical standards of care in providing accessible, targeted sterilization of large numbers of cats and dogs to reduce their overpopulation and subsequent euthanasia.

HQHVSN is the process of performing spays and neuters utilizing specific evidence-based techniques that are safe, efficient, take less time than a traditional spay/neuter, that maintains the standard of care and ensures the safety and welfare of the patient.

HQHVSN clinics are where it takes place. It is a very different space from a typical veterinary clinic. They can be dedicated, specifically designed, brick and mortar veterinary clinics, a mobile surgical vehicle, or a temporary M.A.S.H space. The set-up and workflow, plus roles and responsibilities are predetermined to provide the optimal and most efficient use of the space and people. It usually includes specific stations where specific roles are assigned to specific tasks that are usually smaller in scope, which minimizes or eliminates “unproductive" time, which is where efficiencies (in addition to the skill of the surgeon) are captured, safely allowing for the higher volume of patients.

The HQHVSN veterinarians' capacity is increased as they use a specialized surgery technique that allows for the smallest incision possible, resulting in having the least complications possible. The specialized vets have a HQHVSN trained support team who optimize the workflow. The HQHVSN vets and team can perform a minimum of 25 spay and neuter surgeries per day and therefore a HQHVSN clinic with three vets can perform a minimum of 75 sterilization surgeries a day with a HQHVSN support team.

The HQHVSN clinic is organized in an efficient and safe manner. The clinic has 7 stations: registration/release, health check & weigh station, induction and surgery preparation, surgery, recovery one, recovery two and an administration station. The HQHVSN clinic utilizes specific SOPs and Chain of Command for HQHVSN clinics, led by a Clinic Coordinator.

There are three types of HQHVSN clinics:

  1. Brick and mortar clinics - permanent site specifically designed and built for a HQHV spay/neuter clinic

  2. Spay/Neuter mobile vans - specifically designed vehicles with limited surgery capacity

  3. M.A.S.H. clinics Mobile Animal Sterilization Hospitals - build/breakdown HQHVSN clinics in suitable spaces for a temporary period of time for communities in need.

The HQHVSN clinic is a powerful clinic that safely and efficiently provides more spay and neuter surgeries, per day, than any other veterinary clinic.
