VETAID - USA

VetAID has been developed for the United States, in response to the reduction of spay/neuter services during and since the pandemic. It is designed to collaborate with local partners to humanely manage dog and cat populations and reduce the spread of infectious diseases. It is teachable, replicable, and scalable.

Animal Balance deploys to partner locations (shelters/humane societies, nonprofits) and provides the following components:

Components of the VetAID Program by Animal Balance

Animal Balance deploys to partner locations (shelters/humane societies, nonprofits) and provides the following components:

Medical Interventions
HQHVSN team deploy and perform 200 spays/neuter surgeries, administer deworming medications plus vaccinations, including Rabies. All the cats and dogs are identified with a tattoo and microchip, as required by each location.

Non-Medical Interventions
Non-surgical methods, such as contraceptives, are reviewed for inclusion at each location to aid with the prevention of breeding through noninvasive, kind methods. Internationally we can use an implant for female dogs and an oral contraceptive for cats, for the short term. In the US, we can only offer cat contraceptives.

Assessing Training Needs for a Sustainable Program
Partner training needs are identified. Interest in training is monitored and extended to individuals for HQHVSN animal technician training and for clinic management, enabling the partner organization’s staff and volunteers to learn new skills and become the HQHVSN support team.

Sovereign Nations
For Sovereign Nation programs, we add a ‘Para Tech’ program which is 2 parts:

Cultural Respect and Empowerment through Opportunities for Self Determination

1.The interested individuals from the Tribe are given intensive hand-on tech training at our clinics, these individuals are then paid to be Animal Balance techs and part of our team for all clinics in the state, on and off reservation.

2.Animal Balance pays for their tuition at Penn Foster to become a certified Animal Assistant or Technician. They can go at their own pace, which means they can still commit to their family and tribal responsibilities at home. The goal for this program is to provide opportunities for self-determination to individuals from the Tribes, so that eventually tribal members are serving their own community with basic wellness services such as vaccines, nail trims and parasite treatments.

Sustainability through resource identification
The program becomes sustainable when the local partner staff and volunteers are trained in HQHVSN clinics and the leadership is shown how and where to find the resources for ongoing support of the program, such as grant writing and forming positive and direct relationships with HQHVSN vets and technicians.

These components form the basis of the VetAID program presented by Animal Balance to all partners in need of these services. Each partner signs an MOU with Animal Balance, then we schedule multiple Zoom calls to plan, then we set the clinic dates with our local partners. Currently the vets are booked out five months ahead, which gives the partner organization time to raise the funds and obtain in-kind donations.
